Granny Smith
The Granny Smith apples that were harvested on October 30, 2015, have left our VA cold store. Both of the VA cold stores have been equipped with our newest storage system My Fruit. A part of My Fruit is Advanced Control of Respiration (ACR), which responds to the respiration of the fruit and safely reaches and maintains the lowest possible oxygen value. After having been stored for 9,5 months, the apples are still green, firm and fresh!
Granny Smith is very susceptible to scald. During storage, the quality of the apples has been monitored by the Food and Bio-based Research department of the Wageningen University. For the latest test in May, samples were stored at 0°C for two weeks, and then at 18°C for one week. No scald was found. We expect the same results in the last test, these upcoming weeks. ACR prevents scald in a 100% natural way!
